Avoid early fading from natural or bed UV exposure

Protect your tattoo when tanning

We know how much a tattoo can mean for someone, as they are body art representations of something meaningful for the wearer. We also know that they have probably required a significant investment, just like any piece of fine art hanging on a museum wall.

Tattoos can easily fade without the proper protection. Any ink color will fade away over time no matter what and you may need to re-touch it at some point; however, today we’d like to give you some guidance on how to protect a tattoo when tanning, especially if you tan often or if your tattoo is on an area usually exposed to the sun, after all…we know how much you like tanning too!!

Cover it with good sunblock!

UV rays (UVA and UVB) accelerate color loss, whether they come from the sun or from a tanning bed. Before your indoor tanning session, cover your tattoo area with the highest SPF sunblock available. Apply the sunblock with a cotton swab to be able to completely cover the outline of the tattoo, instead of leaving a border around the design. You can also try to cover it with a piece of fabric the size and shape of your tattoo, to block as much UV as possible.

Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize

Do it every day –men and women- especially after a tanning session and if your skin feels dry and itchy or becomes flaky. This will prevent you to loose bits of skin that could slowly strip the ink out of your tattoo.

Don’t tan or expose to the sun if you have a brand new tattoo!

You may think that this goes without saying, but it doesn’t hurt to emphasize it, just in case! You should follow the aftercare instructions given by your tattoo artist, and never expose to natural or artificial UV a tattoo that is not healed yet!
